SmartPay connects to the NZ EFTPOS network where debit transactions are free. Stripe does not have EFTPOS network access, so it charges 2.7% on all cards. Using both gives your restaurant the lowest possible fees across all scenarios.

Common Questions

Do I need to buy all new hardware?

Not necessarily. If you already have iPads, Epson/Star printers, or SmartPay terminals, we can work with your existing equipment. We'll assess what you have during setup.

Can customers order in their own language?

Yes. The QR ordering menu supports multiple languages. Particularly useful for tourist areas or diverse neighbourhoods in Auckland.

What happens if the internet goes down?

The POS stores orders locally and syncs when connection returns. Cash payments continue to work. EFTPOS terminals have their own 4G fallback.

Can I still use Uber Eats / DoorDash alongside this?

Absolutely. This system handles your direct orders (zero commission). Third-party platforms remain separate for discovery and new customers.

How long does setup take?

Website and software: 1-2 weeks. Hardware installation and staff training: 1 day on-site. EFTPOS pairing: 10 minutes.

What about Alipay and WeChat Pay?

SmartPay terminals support both Alipay and WeChat Pay via QR code. The customer scans the terminal screen. Great for Chinese tourist traffic.

Can I manage menus myself?

Yes. The admin panel lets you update menu items, prices, availability, and photos. Changes sync to your website, QR menu, and POS instantly.

Why are there two payment providers (SmartPay + Stripe)?

No single NZ provider covers both in-store and online. SmartPay connects to the NZ EFTPOS network where debit card payments are free, saving you thousands per year on dine-in transactions. Stripe is the global standard for online payments but doesn't connect to the EFTPOS network. Using both gives you the lowest fees across all scenarios. All sales still appear in one unified report.

Is there a lock-in contract?

No. Month-to-month. The system runs on your own hardware, so you own your setup. Stripe has zero monthly fees and no contract. SmartPay terminals are typically 12-36 month rental agreements.
