A Small-Business SEO Plan for a Two-to-Five-Person NZ Team

A focused 12-week SEO and GEO plan for a small New Zealand team with limited time, content and budget.

A small team needs a search plan that fits around customer work. Start with one website, a short question list, and a weekly routine that someone can finish.

Week 1: confirm access and facts

Record who controls the domain, website, hosting, analytics, Search Console, and Google Business Profile. Confirm the business name, services, contact details, service area, hours, and main enquiry route.

Mark missing information. Do not fill gaps with guessed prices, locations, reviews, qualifications, or project results.

Week 2: choose the valuable questions

Ask the person who answers the phone or email to list common questions. Group them into:

  • service fit;
  • location and availability;
  • price or quote process;
  • preparation and timing;
  • proof and trust;
  • what happens next.

Choose questions connected to a real service that the business wants to sell. Ten good questions are enough for an initial plan.

Weeks 3 to 6: fix and publish

Check crawl access, index status, page titles, headings, canonical URLs, sitemap entries, internal links, and mobile use. Fix material blockers first.

Then publish or improve one useful page every two weeks. A good page should:

  1. answer the question early;
  2. explain who the service suits;
  3. name the real service area;
  4. give enough detail for a decision;
  5. use evidence with permission;
  6. offer one clear next step.

Weeks 7 to 10: connect the information

Link related service pages and guides. Update Google Business Profile where the service, hours, links, or photos need attention. Check that public details agree.

Run a small set of AI-search questions and record the sources used. Treat the result as a gap-finding exercise. Do not rewrite the website simply to imitate one answer.

Weeks 11 and 12: review the pattern

Use Search Console to check indexing, queries, impressions, and clicks where data is available. Review local profile activity and the agreed prompt set. List completed work, useful changes, weak topics, and the next questions to answer.

Three months may still be too early for a firm commercial conclusion. Keep a stable baseline and compare over a longer period.

A weekly routine after launch

  • check the site and search data;
  • choose or confirm the next customer question;
  • improve or publish the relevant page;
  • verify links and indexing;
  • record the result and next action.

The BestAI SEO & GEO Starter plan packages this routine for one website at NZ$49 per month. Growth adds hosting, security maintenance, Google Business Profile management, a monthly check-in, and quarterly planning.

Keep the plan small enough to finish. A long strategy document has little value when the business cannot approve facts or publish the first page.

Choose the next step for your business

BestAI builds websites and focused custom software for NZ small businesses. A bounded workflow can help with a verified repeated handoff, while specialist business software should keep the jobs it already does well.
